Sponsored by the Western Chapter of the New York State Horse Council.

Sunday, March 23rd    10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Royalton Equine, 7735 Chestnut Ridge Road, Lockport, NY  14094

An indoor/un-mounted clinic to introduce you to the sport of Distance Riding — to include an overview of AERC Endurance/Limited Distance Rides.

We will review how the competitions work, how to prepare the horse and rider and how to have not just success, but fun!  This will include a powerpoint presentation, lots of photos, some video and web-surfing, some hands-on demonstrations of tack, metabolic checks of horses (in the indoor arena), a little bit about feeding and electrolyting, as well as plenty of time for questions and answers.  While the clinic is geared toward riders new to the sport, we’ll try to tailor the clinic to the attendees who sign up.

Limited to 25 participants due to space constraints.

The clinic will be hosted by Dr. Jeanne and Ken Best, and taught by Richard and Patti Stedman, who have been actively competing in distance riding for over fifteen years, and manage the Allegany Shut Up and Ride (AERC ride).  Iris Hill Farm has three horses actively competing in CTRs, 50s, 100s and multi-day rides with wins, Best Conditions and plenty of Top Tens, a Decade Team Horse, along with several turtle awards  — to finish is to win!  Patti is a member of the AERC Board of Directors.

$45 per attendee ($10 discount for NYSHC members); $20 for juniors under 18.   Please enclose check made out to “Patti Stedman” with your completed registration form.  The clinic will fill be filled based on order of registration/payment receipt.

Please bring a folding chair for the classroom portion of the day.  Wear comfortable clothes, appropriate for both some inside time (in the classroom) and also in the indoor arena (so bring some layers for hands-on work with the horses).

You may want to bring a stethoscope and a notepad/pen to take some notes.

We’ll serve a simple lunch.  Pizza or subs or something like that.  Coffee and bottled water will be available.

We’ll try to keep it “green” and not kill too many trees with paper handouts, but will likely give you lots of internet links, a CD with resources that may be handy, and some lists.

Look forward to seeing you there!
